Are you interested in providing the kind of feedback to your teachers that they can implement immediately and independently? Wondering how to effectively give this kind of feedback? The Targeted Feedback Institute will guide you in how to do so.
Giving targeted feedback is a powerful skill and an important support for helping teachers grow their practice throughout a school year. This kind of professional support serves to give immediate feedback to teachers in relation to a specific learning goal or area of focus they choose.
The Center for Educational Leadership has been training teacher, school and district leaders in targeted feedback work for the past several years. In this updated version of the institute, school teams will work on developing three specific skills that will support them in giving effective feedback to their teachers. They will create a plan for how to implement feedback systems in their school.
Use evidence from a classroom visit to connect teacher practice to student learning.
Utilize a strengths-based stance when providing feedback.
Implement a targeted feedback cycle with teachers.

Principals, instructional coaches, teacher leaders and a central office leader who supervises principals can attend the institute as a team. The institute asks that participants use a research-based instructional framework to inform the observation and feedback process. The process itself can be used with any instructional framework.
Yes! This training will be framework-neutral. While we will assume your district has an instructional framework as a vision for powerful instruction, it can be any framework. We will reference the use of a framework, but you will not have to use a specific one to participate.
What previous feedback institute attendees are saying:
"I am impressed with the tools you have developed. It makes the learning seamless and authentic ... Very engaging and timely for us."
– Assistant Superintendent
"CEL’s training is fast-paced ... and moves my practice forward."
– Principal
"It’s becoming clearer for me how the feedback and observations work together in a shorter amount of time. Seems doable now."
– Assistant Principal
