Hi Colleague,
Welcome to the third week of Summer Renewal with CEL! Here's what we shared in Week 1 and Week 2.
Each email is designed to be a 15-minute long "learning pause." They offer a chance to reflect, get clear and move closer to your vision in the new school year.
You can participate on your own or invite your team to join you. You can download this fillable pdf or take notes in your journal of choice.
___________
This week's theme is "Becoming the leader you aspire to be."
First, please glance at the six images above. Which one speaks to your current state of mind? Take a moment to capture your answer.
In the blog post, Small Moments, Big Growth: A Year-End Reflection, Project Director Jeff McCormick tells a story about a relatively new assistant principal in a district leading for equity in a predominantly white district that also has many families who are recent immigrants. This principal had done some professional learning with the Student Experience Story Guide. And when a student was sent to him for discipline shortly thereafter, he decided not to "bring the hammer down."
We invite you to read the full story, then watch a three-minute video where Jose Rivera, assistant superintendent of Grandview School District in Washington State shares how he engages with issues of race in his district.
